There are 6 things you cannot afford to do without in life. If you missed my video on Monday the 1st of June, you can see it HERE and below to see how I explain these 6 critical things and their impact in your life. Over the next few weeks, beginning from today, I will expand further on these 6 things; using two of the most popular TV shows in recent times – Game of Thrones and When They See Us to discuss The 6 Most Transformational Life Lessons you cannot afford to do without in life. Today, we begin with IDENTITY.
LESSON 1 from Game of Thrones (GOT) – IDENTITY
1. KNOW THYSELF!!!
2. KNOW THYSELF!!!
3. KNOW THYSELF!!!
Screamed Socrates when asked about the 3 secrets of success. In his words, until you know thyself, you cannot be thy best self.
“It’s a sad fate for a man to die too well known by everyone else but still unknown to himself” – Francis Bacon
“In other living creatures, the ignorance of themselves is nature but in man it’s a vice”- Bothius
“An unexamined life is not worth living”- Socrates
“Significance, Peace, Meaning, Fulfillment and Satisfaction are man’s Ultimate Pursuit. ONLY PURPOSE can reward man with them” – The Catalyst
In Game of Thrones, each house, great and small, have an IDENTITY represented by a Sigil/Badge often with the symbol of an animal. This Badge represented their Brand, IDENTITY and Legacy. It made an existential statement about their rights, title and inheritance. It revealed who they are, what they stand for and represent.
Their IDENTITIES are shaped by their Environment (North or South). Their Behaviour, Competencies & Capabilities and their Core Beliefs. It embodies their generational Values and Culture.
The most critical thing about IDENTITY is that it shapes people’s personal lives, enterprises, relationships and ultimately their OUTCOMES i.e who they become, relate with, marry and ultimately what they achieve in life. You need to start thinking about your IDENTITY because it gives you the right to live a worthwhile life. My question for you today is, Who are you? I’d love to hear from you… tell me in the comments.
More tomorrow, stay tuned.
