Principle 8 – The Law of Core Values
Your values represent the most important things to you. They represent the rules and principles that govern your thoughts, decisions, beliefs and life. They are the source of your conflicts and collaborations. You repel and reject people whose values conflict with yours and you attract and like people whose values align and complement yours. 
 
Your values are usually unconscious and are linked to your beliefs about what is right and wrong, good and bad. They are often unconsciously inherited from your parents, older siblings, teachers, role models etc from your childhood. For Example: Peace, security, family or money etc. Each of your values have varying degrees of importance.

What are your core values?

Some years back at a women’s empowerment summit, Beyonce’s mum, Tina Knowles opened up about how staying true to her strong values cost Destiny’s Child their first ever record deal.
“The first deal that they [Destiny’s Child] had, I was the first person to open my big mouth to the people that signed them … Because they were actually exposing the girls to things that I just didn’t feel were appropriate for them to be so young,”

“Well, he ended up telling me to get out of his office, take the kids home and don’t bring them back,” she shared. “So I’m devastated because I have to go and tell these kids I messed up their deal. So I end up doing that and God just showed up because in three months, they got a way bigger, better deal.” – Tina Knowles explained.

Destiny’s Child went on to become one of the world’s most successful girl groups of all time. Who knows what could have happened if they hadn’t stuck to their values and guiding principles at the time?

EXERCISE: Do a list of your core values in their order of importance.
 
When we gain clarity about our core values, we immediately take ownership of and activate the driver towards our end Vision, Mission and Purpose. Your values are really the hidden secrets behind the “why” for  your Goals, Vision and Mission.

    Thanks for the lessons!
    Core values are easily developed when purpose is discovered! Getting or developing values outside the personal vision or purpose for living is the woe of human societies and Solution to this is self examination that lead to Purpose Discovery before values are developed!
